PRF Under Eyes vs. Dermal Fillers: Which Treatment is Right for You?

Mary's Profile

Are you tired of looking in the mirror and seeing dark circles, hollowness, or wrinkles under your eyes? These common concerns can make you appear older, tired, or even unhealthy, affecting your confidence and self-image.

At Boutique Wellness, we understand the impact that under-eye issues can have on your daily life, and we’re here to help you find the best solution for your unique needs.

Two of the most popular treatments for addressing under-eye concerns are Platelet-Rich Fibrin (PRF) and dermal fillers

Both of these options can help to rejuvenate the delicate under-eye area, but they work in different ways and may be better suited for different individuals.

Determining the Right Treatment for You

When considering treatment options for under-eye concerns, it’s essential to understand how each approach works and which one might be best suited for your individual needs.

How Does PRF/PRP Work?

PRP and PRF are derived from your own blood and contain a concentration of cells and wound healing factors. When applied to a specific area, they can increase blood supply, collagen production, and tissue healing activity.

PRP is a liquid that can be injected under the skin or applied with various needle-based devices within the skin.

PRF is created when PRP is made into a gel form.

We routinely use PRP to improve skin quality in areas such as under-eye dark circles, sun-damaged skin, fine lines and wrinkles, and acne scars.

PRF, in its gel form, can stimulate fat cells and collagen production, resulting in tissue volume improvement where it is placed.

It’s important to note that PRF cannot be used as a substitute for hyaluronic acid fillers, as it does not have the same strength and breaks down faster.

How Do Dermal Fillers Work?

Hyaluronic acid fillers, on the other hand, are well-tolerated and can last from six months to two years, depending on the material and location of placement.

We use these fillers for volume enhancement in areas like the lips, tear troughs/under-eyes, and nasolabial folds, as well as for deep structural volume enhancements in the cheekbones, jawline, and chin.

Using a Combination Treatment

In some cases, a combination of hyaluronic acid fillers and PRP or PRF can be very effective in helping you achieve your desired results.

For example, when treating the under-eye and tear trough area, we often place hyaluronic acid filler at the bone level to address volume deficiency and then place PRP just below the skin level to improve skin quality, wrinkles, and dark circles.

At Boutique Wellness, our experienced providers will work closely with you to define the specific concerns you want to address and develop a clear treatment plan that takes into account the capabilities and limitations of each approach.
